Miami-Dade County Public Schools is committed to the safety and security of our students. Nonetheless an air of uncertainty remains as we continue to see violence and an increase in threats in schools throughout the country. There is no end-all solution to this issue. However, we must all do what we can to make certain that our students feel safe in our schools.
Parents need to understand that they are our partners. Not only in reporting any suspicious behavior, but also in talking to their children about these threats and clearly communicating the potentially severe consequences associated with making threats even if it’s a joke. Students should know that it is important for them report any threat or suspicious activity. Reporting threats gives the District, the schools, and law enforcement, the best chance of preventing a tragedy.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools is committed to promoting responsible decision-making amongst our students, especially when it comes to safety. Between all of us our community, we can all work together to ensure safety in our schools.
