As we enter the year 2020, I am reminded of the simple yet profound value of being grateful. Beginnings are always best when they are met with a simple, “thank you.”
It is an awesome responsibility to be a Miami-Dade School Board Member, and it is one that I am thankful for. Since 2012 you have entrusted me to work closely with and represent the 20 Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) schools in District 5. What a privilege it is to be able to create policy that comes from the ideas, concerns, and the needs of the students, parents and District 5 community stakeholders. These policies enhance the quality of education that students have access to, provide opportunities to strengthen security in our schools, and better our mental health programs, to name a few. It really does take a village to raise a healthy child and I am thankful for this village.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work side by side with so many wonderful professionals and hard-working people like the Principals, the teachers and all of the staff at our schools, the PTAs, my fellow Board members, my staff, too many colleagues to count in the Miami-Dade County Public School system, our local, County, State and federal government partners, to name just a few.
Thank you to each one of you for believing in me and trusting me to always put this community’s best interests first in the work I do on the Miami Dade County School Board. Here’s to a great 2020!
