It is an honor to welcome Live It Up Doral to the community and I thank them for this opportunity to inform the residents about the great things we have going on in the City.
On October 1st the City kicked off a new fiscal year, meaning the start of a new budget that strategically puts your dollars to work for you! This budget, approximately 3% leaner than last year’s, addresses our growing needs while remaining fiscally responsible.
Our top priority continues to be the safety and wellbeing of our residents, businesses and visitors. That is why the biggest portion of the budget, almost 40%, is going towards our Police Department. This will be used to hire more sworn police officers and Police administrative staff.
We are also improving walkability in the City as part of a Transit Mobility Plan initiative and resurfacing roadways and adding more capacity to City roads to alleviate traffic congestion. This budget also funds the programming and operation of Doral Glades Park, opening Summer 2019.
This budget is based on a 1.9 millage rate, which is the 2nd lowest millage rate in the entire County. It’s important to note that only about 11% of your taxes come to the City of Doral. About 45% goes to Miami-Dade County and 39% to the Public School Board.
This budget demonstrates our continued commitment to provide the highest level of service in the most efficient and effective way. Our residents deserve it!
