Being a good mother

  1. Continue to be yourself. You do not have to give up your passions and interests just because you are a mother. It’s important that you find time to do what you enjoy.
  2. Don’t be a martyr. Your children do not ask you to sacrifice yourself that much. Do you need some time alone? Let the kids watch some television and go read a book. Leave the kids with their dad one night and go to dinner with a friend.
  3. Don’t try to be perfect. You will undoubtedly make mistakes. If you love your children and take care of their basic needs, they will be fine.
  4. Be patient.
  5. Listen to the kids. Sometimes they just want to be heard. Not your advice.
  6. Be the mother of your children, not their “friend”. Impose limits. Nowadays, families are democracies. We negotiate, convince each other and listen to everyone’s opinion. And while this is super cool, kids need to respect parenting roles.
  7. Preach simplicity. You will be doing your children a big favor if you teach them from an early age that happiness has nothing to do with the accumulation of material things.
  8. Don’t over pressures the children.
  9. Help them develop self-esteem.
  10. Teach them to be independent.
  11. Have fun! Having children is an opportunity to be a child again, to do and see things you never thought you would do again, to face the world with innocence and curiosity.
